In the UK many people experience clothing poverty when they don’t have the right clothing to keep them warm, attend interviews, go to school or get outside in all weathers. Sharewear Clothing Scheme help many people with clothing needs including those fleeing domestic violence, ex prisoners or refugees. We collect and donate unwanted garments left over from our clothing swaps and collection drives to Sharewear to support people in need. We also work with as a Sharewear Champion in Leicestershire helping them to find new networks and set-up a new hub in the area. We also send some of our waste fabric offcuts to Dressability who make them into sanitary wear for girls in Ghana.
Boy Wonder has donated over 48kg or 381 items of clothing that we will help people in need rather than end up in landfill
Over the last few years we have donated over £300 to various important causes that are close to our hearts including Friends of the Earth, Stop Ecocide Fund, BLM UK, the Nurses PPE fund, Sea Shepherd and our local food bank.
We have also volunteered with Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion to raise awareness of plastic pollution and the climate crisis.
Every year around 640,000 tonnes of fishing gear such as lines, nets and pots is lost or discarded into the oceans. Sea Shepherd protect and conserve the amazing creatures in our seas and safeguard it’s biodiversity through direct action, conservation projects and beach cleans. I have made a donation and am training for and have signed up to do a 10k run in August to raise money for Sea Shepherd. You can help me achieve my target of £1000 by sponsoring me here.

1 million species are currently on the brink of extinction globally. Trees are really important for biodiversity and to help combat climate change. I am in the process of starting to volunteer with the Forestry England in the National Forest locally where I will help with tree planting and woodland restoration. I have also been involved in establishing Blue Heart verges and borders in our nearby areas to help restore biodiversity. This is an ongoing project I am campaigning to expand in the local area. Find out more here.

I have recently undertaken an accredited carbon literacy course through a Patagonia grantee: Transition Loughborough. This learning has enabled me to further understand what myself and the business can do within the community to help Leicestershire reach net zero carbon.
In order to help me understand and communicate fashion sustainability issues to my audience I have also undertaken various MOOC online courses such as Fashion Values: Nature, Fashion & Sustainability and Circular Fashion.
Boy Wonder was a MSE partner in the Fostering Sustainable Practices research by the Centre for Sustainable Fashion who used us a case study to create a guidebook and policy guide to help shift the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future. The climate and ecological crisis is the defining issue of our time and threatens all life on our planet including our own. As a micro start-up business we are still a long way off from making a profit. However, once we are able to we will commit to donating 1% of our sales to the 1% for the Planet organization which supports environmental causes tackling the most pressing issues around the world. This is the most important goal we have as a company.
